One of mine is a printer. 5 Very influential 3 Indifferent I would probably never buy a DVR if it didn’t have controls that resembled those on an old Sony Walkman. But I also wouldn’t ever buy a DVR if it was yellow and had a window where I could see two tape rolls.

0 4 0 1 1 4 Since I know this survey was born of a discussion on skeumorphism, here’s my opinion: I suppose that the majority of users don’t actually notice, most of the time, that an interface is skeumorphic. Most users will operate with adjectives such as nice” or “ugly”, and will not go so far as to try and understand why they do or not like something. If they like it, they’ll take it; if they don’t, they’ll look for an alternative. Personally, I don’t like skeumorphism. Not at all. But I still think Mac OS and iOS are the nicest UIs out there, and I’ve seen plenty. My wife thinks the calendar looks very nice on Macs. She never realized the decoration is actually stitches, or that stitches are somewhat out of place on a computer. She just thinks it’s generally pleasing to the eye and would never spent a second longer thinking about it if I hadn’t asked her to. Whether it’s skeumorphic is mainly an issue for the designers, and I don’t even think it has a lot of impact on how the majority of users perceives a UI, not to mention the impact on sales which is probably less than marginal.” 1 Not influential 2 Dislike Oops, sorry, I guess I put my opinion a page too early.

2 4 0 2 1 1 For me, an OS has to have personality, visual language. iOS and WP have theirs. Android is a heap of features without rhyme or reason. 3 3 Indifferent I want a UI to accelerate or at least not get in the way of doing things. Skeuomorphic design by itself doesn’t annoy nor please me.
